GB Rowing Team, Harvard Alum
I’m Dave! I graduated from Harvard University in 2020 with a degree in Psychology and a secondary in Economics. I’ve been on the British National team for 3 years and won multiple World and European Championships and most recently won a Bronze Medal at the Paris Olympics. I am incredibly excited to now be working with Sholto and Jack at Crew Connection.
I began rowing at Tideway scullers ages 12 before continuing whilst studying at St Pauls School. As a Junior I won the Princess Elizabeth cup at Henley and competed at the Junior World Championships in Rio. In my final year at school, I applied to studied in the US and was accepted to study and row at Harvard University.
At Harvard, I rowed in the varsity 8+ for all 4 years and throughly enjoyed being part of a big ambitious team. I particularly enjoyed rowing with athletes from many different counties and learning from my teammates.
After graduating from Harvard, I came back to the UK to compete for selection for the GB Rowing Team rowing and row out of Oxford Brookes University Boat Club. I also studied at Oxford University, completing my masters in the Social Science of the Internet. I raced as part of the Oxford crew for the 2022 boat race too, winning the race on my local stretch of river.
After finishing my master’s degree, I was selected as spare for the 2022 World Championships and got a last minute call up to race in the Men’s 4- due to illness within the crew. I had to adapt to a new crew and team in a short space of time and focus on the job at hand regardless of my preparation. I went on to continue to race in this boat class the following two years.
I had an amazing experience studying in America and hope to help as many young student athletes achieve their dream to compete at the highest level . A piece of advice I would give any athlete looking to apply is to keep your options open by speaking to as many universities as possible; narrow it down to your favourites later once you’ve got stuck into the recruiting process fully.
